CHARACTER NAME: Joseph Joestar
CANON & CANON POINT: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Battle Tendency. After episode 20, before the chariot race with Wamuu.
AGE: 18
ABILITIES: yo, but anime wiki pages are worse than death, so here’s the tl;dr version:

HAMON.
Also known as the Ripple, Hamon is a type of solar energy produced by the human body via self-controlled breathing techniques that essentially gives users the ability to weaponize their life force and fight with the power of the sun. As such, it's highly effective against the undead, especially creatures like vampires that are naturally weak against light. Joseph is a natural born Hamon user, having inherited the ability from his mother and grandfather.

Hamon's applications in combat are nearly limitless. It can be channeled through the user's body parts like the hands or feet to attack opponents directly, or transferred into objects to increase their efficacy as weapons or tools. It also has a number of defensive and healing capabilities, especially when transferred into another person's body. For example, Joseph uses it at one point to create a barrier made out of strands of his own hair to deflect a barrage of gunfire, and expels a parasitic monster possessing another character by filling their body with a massive amount of Hamon.

While Hamon might seem like a bullshit everything-but-the-kitchen-sink power (and it is), the means of its strength is also its greatest weakness. Because it requires the user to be consistently breathing and have strong blood circulation, any disturbance or injury to the body that disrupts the blood's flow or weakens the user's ability to breathe will also weaken their ability to produce Hamon.

STAND: HERMIT PURPLE. Additionally, Joseph has the ability to summon a Stand, Hermit Purple, a psychic manifestation of his soul that takes the form of a cluster of purple rose vines. It can be called forth from Joseph’s hands and used like a rope or even a grappling hook, but its main ability is divination. Used in conjunction with ordinary objects and technology, Joseph can generate psychic images of almost any type of information he wants, such as maps that precisely display the location of objects and spirit photographs that show what a person is doing at that given moment. When interfaced with electronics that have display screens like television sets, he can even use it to read minds. Lastly, Joseph can enhance Hermit Purple's combat capabilities by charging the vines with Hamon, turning them into thorny whips made of light. Despite this, it's generally meant to be used noncombatively and is considered to be the physically weakest Stand among the Joestar family.

At the point in canon he's being taken from, Hermit Purple is currently lying dormant within Joseph and is inaccessible to him. However, there are implications that he’s still able to draw upon its precognitive powers, albeit unconsciously and to a limited degree, as seemingly confirmed by the mangaka. Although it remains invisible to Joseph himself, other Stand users, psychics and people with powerful magic potential would be able to see Hermit Purple in its true form wrapped around Joseph’s body.

BIO: yo x2
SUITABILITY: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is a series with recurrent horror and mystery elements. Vampires, zombies, ghosts, otherworldly serial killers and other supernatural phenomena play a prevalent role in each part's story with copious amounts of body horror and gore featuring into the action, meaning that Joseph is already more than familiar with those aspects of the game's setting. Having been raised on stories of his family's battles with the supernatural, Joseph grew up learning to believe in monsters and, more importantly, how to fight them. He's gone through a harrowing amount of shit in a very short amount of time, especially for a teenager, including living with a slow-acting poison inside his body for nearly a month and inadvertently getting his best friend killed. As a result, Joseph shoulders a significant amount of trauma and guilt at the point in canon he's being taken from, making him a perfect candidate for the setting's psychological horror component.

« QUESTIONS & SAMPLES »

WHAT IS YOUR CHARACTER'S GREATEST STRENGTH? WHAT DO THEY THINK IT IS?: Joseph believes his greatest asset is his intelligence and he isn't afraid to tell you that — repeatedly, if necessary. Physically speaking, he's arguably the weakest JoJo in the Joestar bloodline, lacking the raw strength of his Hamon-proficient grandfather and Stand-using descendants, but he more than makes up for it by being the most cunning. A fight against him is a fight filled with more misdirection, trickery and showmanship than a two dollar magic show. While Joseph is undoubtedly a heroic person with a good heart, there are very few lines he won't cross for the sake of winning, including cheating. He's well-aware of how annoying his shenanigans can be and actively uses that to his advantage by playing into the perception that he's nothing but a silly, loudmouthed child to manipulate others into showing weakness.

IF YOUR CHARACTER WERE TO LEARN WHAT THE REWARDS WERE FOR ALLYING WITH A GOD, OR WHAT THE CONSEQUENCES WERE FOR REJECTING THEM, WOULD THEY REGRET THEIR CHOICE? IF THEY COULD RE-CHOOSE, WOULD THEY?: Joseph is the kind of person who prefers to have as much information as possible before making an important decision so he can come up with a backup plan (or two, or three...). As he sees it, being rash and running ahead into a questionable situation without having the full picture is one of the worst mistakes you can make, and one that experience has taught him typically leads to a horrible, senseless death. Unfortunately, Joseph can also be too smart for his own good. With all of that in mind, he wouldn't immediately regret rejecting the Old Gods' protection. Even if he were to learn what the repercussions were, he would try to rationalize his decision by pointing out that eldritch beings living in a desolate wasteland/hell dimension probably don't have humanity's best interests at heart, and any boons they're offering very likely come with a massive catch. Cockily, he would probably think that he could handle whatever the Otherworld throws at him, anyway; after all, this ain't his first rodeo against the forces of darkness.

Trapped in an otherworldly place and separated from his friends and family, Joseph would only begin to truly grasp the consequences of his choice once he starts experiencing the effect they have on him directly, growing to regret his choice the more he begins to lose hope in himself.

IF YOUR CHARACTER FOUND A DOG CAUGHT IN A TRAP, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SHIOKAWA FOREST FRAUGHT WITH MONSTERS AND HUNTERS AND OTHER ELDRITCH FUN, WOULD THEY HELP THE POOR CREATURE? OR WOULD THEY BE DISTRUSTFUL GIVEN THE SETTING AND THEREFORE UNSURE?: At first, Joseph would be distrustful and try to figure out a way to determine if it's really just a dog. If it isn't, he'd go on his merry way, assuming he doesn't have to kill the thing first. If it is, he'd do what he can to rescue it, even if he has to get creative (read: asspull his way to victory) about it. As selfish as Joseph can be at times, he isn't heartless — it's simply not in his DNA to turn the other way if an innocent life is in danger.

Besides, it's a dog. Joseph loves dogs, even if they don't always love him.
